Active subwoofer

JBL Stage 220P Espresso Subwoofer — active 12-inch subwoofer 500 W

Deep bass with JBL character for home cinema and music in a large room.

The JBL Stage 220P Espresso subwoofer is an active subwoofer with a built-in 500 W amplifier and a 12-inch (300 mm) low-frequency driver. It connects with a single cable to the subwoofer output of an AV receiver and adds the foundation that standard speakers cannot reproduce. The rear controls allow the bass to be adjusted precisely to the room and the other speakers.

12-inch Polycellulose driver for tight, accurate bass

The driver of the JBL Stage 220P has a 12-inch (300 mm) diameter and a high-excursion ribbed Polycellulose cone. This construction gives rigidity to the cone and reproduces the deep tones of movie effects and the bass guitar clearly, without blurring.

Built-in 500 W amplifier for a large living room

The active design means that the JBL Stage 220P has its own amplifier and does not load the receiver. The 500 W power provides headroom for dynamic peaks in movies and concert recordings, even when the subwoofer is placed in a distant corner of the room.

Bass-Reflex with two rear ports for cleaner airflow

The cabinet of the JBL Stage 220P features a bass-reflex design with two rear flared ports. The expanded profile reduces air velocity at the exit and eliminates port noise, leaving only clean bass.

Rear controls: crossover, level, phase, and Auto mode

The continuously adjustable low-pass crossover (a filter that determines up to where the subwoofer plays) in the 50–150 Hz range allows the JBL Stage 220P to blend with any main speakers. The phase switch aligns the bass with the soundstage, and the Auto mode turns on the subwoofer upon signal detection and puts it to sleep when there is no music.

LFE input and magnetic grille for a clean look

The line-level LFE input on the JBL Stage 220P bypasses the internal filter and connects directly to the receiver's subwoofer output — control remains entirely within the AV system. The magnetically attached grille removes without visible holes, and adjustable spikes stabilize the cabinet on thick carpet.
