Specially designed as the LOWER layer of the raised bed. If this layer is missing or not strong enough, an unwanted rotting process will start in the bed and the bed will smell. The coarse structure provides increased air and water permeability. It drains excess water and introduces air into the bed. This provides suitable conditions for the reproduction, life and activity of beneficial soil micro- and macroorganisms (molds, fungi, earthworms, etc.) in the middle layer, which through their activity break down organic matter in the middle layer and release organically bound nutrients for the needs of plants.
