Opinel Parallele No. 118 Chef's Knife

The Parallele 118 chef's knife from Opinel is the ideal kitchen helper; its dimensions allow convenient and easy cutting of large fruits, vegetables and pieces of meat. The Parallele collection consists of all the knives most necessary for kitchen work. The blades are made of stainless steel X50CrMoV15, which is highly corrosion-resistant and provides perfect cutting. Their shapes are specially studied and made in a way that optimises the technique of use and guarantees ideal slicing of every type of food. The handles provide security and comfort of grip, and the accentuated smooth lines of the beech wood give a natural feel to the touch. It is hard, durable and easy to work. With a homogeneous appearance, its light colour varies from yellow to pink, and it is also characterised by the presence of many small dark streaks. The knife is not suitable for a dishwasher.

Opinel knives, with their 120-year history, have become a symbol of French culture and way of life. The first was created in 1890 by Joseph Opinel, then an 18-year-old boy working in the family tool-making workshop. The knife quickly gained popularity among local farmers, cattle breeders and winegrowers. It was simple, light, strong and convenient. This popularity soon left the borders of the Savoy province, and today, of France. In 1985 the Victoria and Albert Museum in London selected the brand as part of an exhibition in honour of the "100 most beautiful products in the world", together with the Porsche 911 and the Rolex watch. Opinel was chosen as one of the 999 best designs in the world and was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York as a design masterpiece.
