FERTAN RUST CONVERTER 250 ML

FERTAN is a product that sprays onto rust and forms a "protective film" on the metal surface. Unlike many other products, FERTAN does not cover the rust but dissolves it chemically. It leaves no acidic surface and does not convert the rust into a dry layer. FERTAN breaks rust down into an inactive powder that falls off the affected metal. It reveals the shiny metal and forms a new protective film on the rust-cleaned surface with a specific colour depending on the carbon content of the metal; it is a compound of iron with tannin and protects against new corrosion.

Fertan has a dual action: existing rust is broken down until the product reaches the uncorroded metal beneath. A compact layer of iron and tannin forms on the surface. This layer is water-insoluble and forms the perfect base for subsequent coatings (primers, anti-rust agents, wax, etc.). It can be used on lightly corroded, heavily corroded or bare metal. Since the product is water-based, it also penetrates the smallest joints, overlaps and even under cracked lacquer coatings. The product can be applied to dry and wet areas. It does not damage plastic, rubber, chrome, glass and surfaces with homogeneous lacquer coating. FERTAN acts actively only when it comes into contact with rust or metal. From all other surfaces it can simply be washed off with water, as it may possibly cause discolouration.

The protective effect of FERTAN is retained for years, provided the surface has a lacquer coating, wax, etc. FERTAN can also be applied outdoors in all weather conditions except frost.

Application and instructions for use:

Using a brush, water jet or other aids such as light sandblasting, remove the rust and clean the surface of all detached substances such as oil, grease, silicone, etc.

Then apply FERTAN with a brush, roller, sponge or spray gun. Depending on the application and the condition of the surface, one litre of FERTAN is sufficient for a surface of approximately 10–15 m². FERTAN works excellently in a humid environment, i.e. it can also be used in light rain or where condensation is present. In a very dry environment, note that the product must be kept moist (water mist), and if necessary the treated surface should be lightly dampened, e.g. with water mist. The reaction time depends both on air humidity and ambient temperature. Since these conditions can vary considerably, it is recommended to leave the preparation to act for up to 48 hours, then check whether the rust has fully converted into a black, compact layer. Metal treated in this way can remain so for anywhere from several weeks to 6 months without an additional protective layer, during which no new rust or corrosion forms. Before any further treatment, always clean the surface thoroughly with water to wash off the detached rust and the black powder formed during conversion. For all applications, note that you must wear protective gloves, e.g. of rubber or latex, to avoid staining the skin. Also protect your clothing with a suitable splash-protective suit, etc. Also take into account that leaking product or rinse water may also cause staining of concrete foundations or other surfaces, so lay down nylon/foil. Within one hour, clean with water or a damp cloth all areas where the preparation should not land, to prevent the formation of stains or discolouration.
