Fairy Encyclopedia by Emily Wilde

"Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries" is an original, funny and captivating story about science, love and faeries!

On a frosty day at the beginning of the last century Emily Wilde, the youngest woman with a doctorate at Cambridge, boards a ship together with a chest of books and her dog, to set off on a journey in the name of science. Her destination is a small island in the Far North, where she hopes to find information about a mysterious kind of faerie called the Hidden Folk.

With her, the first comprehensive and systematic encyclopaedia of faeries and mythical creatures will be completed, and Dr Wilde's name will be inscribed in golden letters in the annals of British science.

The problem is that gathering information requires fieldwork and conversations with people, and Emily herself is not very good at socialising. Then he appears.

The most infuriating and annoying individual she knows, and her greatest rival in academic circles. Wendell Bambleby.

With his fake charm and dazzling smile, he somehow manages to bewitch the locals and extract from them everything they know about the Hidden Folk. And he even has the audacity to offer his help…

Torn between her pride and the fact that the fate of her research hangs by a thread, Emily must make a choice. In the name of science and everything she has worked for. But first she must find the answer to the question of who Wendell Bambleby really is.
