Description

Vermiculite is a natural mineral from the Hydromicite group that forms in the earth's interior.
After processing at a temperature of 1000 C, it turns into a light porous material.
It is inert, chemically and biologically stable, and sterile.
Thanks to its content of trace elements such as: calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and silicon, vermiculite is a natural biostimulant for plant growth.
Properties:
  • With its high sorption and air capacity, vermiculite is an excellent humidity regulator and has a positive effect on root development.
  • It is added to soil mixtures to maintain optimal soil moisture conditions, air capacity and heat balance, creating favorable conditions for plant nutrition.
  • Thanks to its porous structure, its granules immediately absorb moisture and nutrients (100g absorbs about 400ml of water), gradually releasing them to the plants.
  • The use of vermiculite as a component up to (40%) in substrates significantly improves the drainage properties of the mixture, increases porosity and looseness, prevents sealing and compaction of the soil, and protects the roots from sudden temperature fluctuations.
  • It protects roots from rotting due to over-watering while retaining moisture until the roots absorb it.
  • Unlike agroperlite, it retains moisture for a longer time.
  • Thanks to its excellent thermal insulation properties, it creates a favorable environment for storing bulbs, tubers and rhizomes.
  • It has a high ion exchange capacity, retaining the positively charged ions of potassium, magnesium and other microelements introduced with fertilization, which it gradually releases to the plants.
  • Significantly improves the structure and aeration of heavy clay soils and the moisture-holding capacity of light sandy soils.
  • Thanks to its neutral pH, it can reduce soil acidity to some extent and slow down the salinization process.
  • Particularly suitable for building lawns, as it protects them from over-wetting or over-drying.
  • Due to its low thermal conductivity, it reduces the risk of frostbite of the root system of perennial plants.
  • In case of excessive fertilization, vermiculite absorbs micro- and macronutrients, while reducing losses of ammonium and nitrate nitrogen.

Norms of use:

  • To increase moisture retention in peat substrates, add 20-40% vermiculite.
  • In bonsai substrates up to 50%.
  • For lawn construction: up to 5l vermiculite per m2
  • In manure, compost, humus up to 20%.
  • To improve the soil in the garden, about 2-5l m2.
  • When using vermiculite as drainage: place about 100-200ml of vermiculite on the bottom of the pot for each liter of pot volume.
  • To store bulbs, seeds and rhizomes, the planting material is covered with 2 to 3 cm of vermiculite, thus protecting it from sudden temperature fluctuations, rotting and premature germination.
  • Vermiculite is particularly suitable as a medium or additive in substrates for terrariums, incubators and aquariums.
