ECONOMICAL BITUMEN SHINGLES WITH EASY INSTALLATION
Bitumen shingles BARDOLINE® FIRST are an economical solution for roofs and cladding of buildings and temporary structures. Installation is made easier by the self-adhesive zone on the back and the side cuts, which provide a good seal.
BARDOLINE® FIRST bitumen shingles come with a 10-year watertightness guarantee.
Laying BARDOLINE® FIRST requires a solid timber base and a minimum roof pitch of 12° (≈ 22 %).
BARDOLINE® FIRST are self-adhesive bitumen shingles - an ideal solution for new roofs and for repairing old ones at a lower cost.
BARDOLINE® FIRST is produced by double-sided impregnation of a strong, flexible, non-rotting base of glass veil and high-quality bitumen. The strips have a coloured mineral granule topping and a self-adhesive zone on the back.
As an exceptionally hydrophobic (waterproof) material, the bitumen gives BARDOLINE® FIRST roofing strips absolute watertightness. The mineral granule coating further limits the capillarity of the material, which prevents water from penetrating under the shingles. The geometry of BARDOLINE® FIRST strips makes them tightly bonded to each other over the entire surface - a particularly interesting quality, as it helps prevent the penetration of dust and snow and also prevents the passage of insects and small animals. The dense and hydrophobic composition of BARDOLINE® FIRST bitumen shingles does not allow any porosity. In freezing weather, BARDOLINE® FIRST roofing strips do not crumble or crack. At the same time, strong and flexible, protected with mineral granules and laid over a continuous base, BARDOLINE® FIRST bitumen shingles successfully withstand hail impacts.
Nailing onto a continuous base (32 to 64 nails per m²) and the mutual adhesion of the strips create from the covering with BARDOLINE® FIRST bitumen shingles a flat, continuous envelope over the roof that is not affected by wind or hurricanes. Due to its bituminous nature, BARDOLINE® FIRST withstands external forces without breaking. Bitumen changes its physical characteristics depending on temperature - a quality of particular importance in its use. This flexibility (ability to bend) allows the forming of complex profiles and the use of the same type of material for the more special areas of the roof structure such as ridges, hips, valleys, etc. The flexibility of BARDOLINE® FIRST allows its laying on more complex roof shapes. BARDOLINE® FIRST is easy to transport thanks to the small size of the strips and their light weight. When cutting, material losses are minimal.
BARDOLINE® FIRST carries CE marking and is produced in accordance with the EN 544 standard.
- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Each BARDOLINE® strip is nailed to the roof base with at least 5 nails with wide heads. Double nailing is done on steeper pitches (over 60°). On roofs with a pitch below 12° (22%), for greater reliability the sheathing is covered with bitumen roll waterproofing, fixed with nails. Laying begins at the eaves with strips from which the tabs have been cut off. The bitumen strips are arranged in a staggered pattern (offset one over another by 1/2 figure) with overlap, leaving visible the sheets that form the clean roof area. Mutual adhesion of the elements is mandatory. It is achieved through the self-adhesive zones on the back of each strip under the influence of ambient temperature up to 24 hours after laying. In cold weather it is necessary to heat the underside of the strips with a torch or to use additional bitumen adhesive. To form the ridge, BARDOLINE® strips are cut into individual trapezoid-shaped elements. They are bent after heating and laid over the ridge using 4 nails on each side, and it is important to take into account the direction of the prevailing winds. The joint should be left on the leeward side.
Continuous timber base (sheathing, boards) - with a minimum thickness of 24 mm. Minimum pitch 12° (22%).
- DETERMINING MATERIAL CONSUMPTION:
BARDOLINE® is sold per square metre of effective roof area (overlap of the strips included).
Ridges, hips and valleys are formed by cutting from the strips themselves.
- hips, ridges - 0.35 m² per linear metre of ridge;
- valleys - 0.40 m² per linear metre of valley;
- eaves and gable edgings - 0.17 m² per linear metre.
