The semi-modular synthesizer Korg The Volca Modular is a compact analogue synthesizer that makes modular synthesis accessible and understandable for both beginners and experienced musicians. The model has eight independent modules and 50 patch points, allowing you to create unique and experimental "West Coast" style sounds. The device is equipped with a built-in 16-step sequencer, digital effects and an internal speaker, making it ideal for standalone use and portable music production.
The Volca Modular is a semi-modular synthesizer consisting of independent analogue synthesizer modules, digital effects and a sequencer. The modules are internally connected, so sound can be produced even before you connect the included patch cables, and the routing is shown with white lines on the panel. When you connect the modules with pin cables, they bypass the internal connections and give you complete freedom to create your own sound combinations. The synthesizer uses FM modulation, random and complex control signals, and low-pass gate circuits that vary the tonal character and loudness of the sound.
Why choose the Volca Modular:
- The eight modules (Source, Functions, Woggle, Split, Dual LPG, Utility, Space Out and Sequence) are carefully selected and offer complete functionality;
- 50 patch points provide endless possibilities for experimenting with sound;
- The inputs and outputs are colour-coded for easy recognition, and the signals are marked with symbols (audio, control, gate or trigger);
- Signal levels are universally compatible between modules, enabling unconventional and creative connections;
- The built-in 16-step sequencer offers parameter automation, step input and realtime recording functions;
- The pattern chaining function allows you to link up to 16 sequences with up to 256 steps for large-scale musical development;
- Support for 14 scale types and micro tuning for flexible musical expression;
- Two new sequencer modes: bounce and stochastic for even more varied rhythmic patterns;
- The randomize function for notes, active steps and micro tuning adds an element of chance and creativity;
- Sync In/Out jacks for synchronisation with other Korg groove machines;
- CV IN jack (TRS mini stereo) for external control with ±5V and 1V/oct signals;
- Compact, lightweight and portable design with a built-in speaker;
- Runs on 6 AA batteries (approximately 5 hours of life) or with an AC adapter.
Instructions for use:
The synthesizer modules are internally connected and can produce sound immediately after switching on. To create your own sound combinations, use the included 20 pin cables to connect the various modules through the 50 patch points. The inputs and outputs are colour-coded, and the signals are marked with symbols for easy orientation. Use the 16 buttons for step input or as a keyboard for realtime recording. The motion sequence function allows you to record knob movements in real time, and pattern chaining links multiple sequences for complex compositions.
The device runs on 6 AA batteries. The batteries are included in the kit for demonstration purposes. For prolonged use, it is recommended to use an AC adapter (KA350), which is not included in the kit.
